Welcome

Public policy is the study of how governmental decisions are shaped from political, socio-economic, and institutional perspectives and the process by which decisions are made as well as the subject matter of each policy.

Citizenship is the membership in a political community (originally a city but now usually a country) and carries with it rights to political participation; a person having such membership is a citizen.

National security is the requirement to maintain the survival of the nation-state through the use of political, economic and military power and the exercise of diplomacy.

Program in National Security Studies

In March 2005, Dr. Stack and the Institute were awarded the Center for Academic Excellence in Intelligence Studies grant by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

FIU was one of 4 original grant recipients, including Trinity University, Washington, D.C.; Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN; and Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta, GA. Since 2006, six additional universities were awarded this prestigious grant.

The grant established the Program in National Security Studies, including:

  • The Undergraduate and Graduate Certificates in National Security Studies
  • The Foreign Language and Cultural Immersion Scholars program
  • The High School Program in National Security Studies
  • National Security Speakers series.
